OUR STORY...

Our Story

At 3 Llama Education, we are passionate about books, literacy, and fostering a life-long love of learning.

[We also love llamas -- a tribute to Thom's past hobby raising show llamas and fun loving goats in Western Massachusetts!]

In 2018, recognizing the challenge and pressures faced by schools, educators, and other institutions to do more with less and frustrated by constraints within the book retailing industry to provide timely and cost-effective resources to our partners, we knew we could do better.

Our Vision

Imagine a world where everyone can read and has affordable and equitable access to books and other learning resources; Where diverse ideas are valued, encouraged and respected; Where words are formed and folded into the pages of new books, touching lives and reaching new audiences around the world. Can you?

At 3 Llama Education, we believe that realizing our vision begins one word and one book at a time. It also begins with each of us doing our part -- leveraging our ideas, time, and talent in a way that creates economic growth and prosperity, bringing about positive social change by giving back a portion of our own profits to benefit the community-at-large.

Our Values

Known for being hard-working, yet fun-loving at heart, the 3 Llamas represent our three core values that are at the heart of our 'why' that drives everything we do!:

  • An appreciation and deep love for all things literary, including books, writing, and words, to both inspire and inform.
  • A commitment to continual learning -- supporting students, educators, and the communities they represent by providing affordable access to a wide array of diverse learning resources and educational materials.
  • A belief in the importance of whole-hearted living, balancing purpose and profit, while giving back to those communities we serve and live in.

Our Mascot "George" (Tibetan Dream)

Raising llamas and working with people have many similarities.  The largest, though, is mutual respect.  A llama has to respect his owner in the paddock.  The only way that occurs is if the owner respects the llama.  Same goes with people.  Mutual respect goes a long way.

In 2006, our founder Thom showed llamas for five years, won a few ribbons, money, and trophies, but the real reward was bonding with these amazing creatures.  One was his light wool division champion,
Tibetan Dream, whom he affectionately called “George.”  George has since passed on, but his spirit remains as our mascot at 3 Llama Press.  George learned, but in so doing, George also taught; and for these reasons, he represents our core value of “Continual Learning.”
